Martek manufacture and install bespoke furniture in the new Brent Civic Centre - Britons greenest public building.

5 years in planning, design and construction, the 40,000 m2 new Civic Centre for the London Borough of Brent opened its doors in to the public in early July 2013.

The Civic Centre is a new hub and heart for the community where residents can meet, shop and eat. It houses Brent's civic, public and administrative functions under one unified roof, providing office space for 2000 staff.

There are meeting and events areas and a Customer Service Centre which interfaces all of the Councils services with its resident customers.

The library merges conventional book lending with the latest technologies providing computer access and internet services to the local community.

The project has been awarded the coveted BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, the highest possible, and is the first project in its category to have achieved this. It accomplishes a 33% reduction in carbon emissions thanks to a combination of solar shading, natural ventilation, high-performance façade and combined cooling, heating and power which utilises waste fish oil. It is the most sustainable local authority building to be completed in the UK.

Martek are proud to have been a part of this very prestigious project and worked with the Council’s architectural and facilities team on the design, manufacture and installation of the specialist joinery elements and furnishings in the Public Library, Customer Service Centre and a number of other service areas.
