The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (EGA) Wing of University College Hospital (UCH) received the Royal seal of approval when it was officially opened by HRH the Princess Royal on February 12th 2009. The final stage of the £500M UCH development, the £70M EGA wing marks the latest addition to NHS neonatal services in the capital.

With the emphasis on all NHS projects on infection control as part of the construction process, Martek’s capabilities in the manufacture of high quality joinery and its ability to incorporate antibacterial materials and systems into their manufactured products was of particular importance in the EGA Wing.

Martek were awarded the contract for the manufacture of fixed furniture and fit out of the reception and nursing station areas.  This project followed successful completion by Martek of similar works during construction of the main 20-storey tower, which comprised phase 1 of the massive 72,500m2 development on Euston Road.
