Regent’s College is one of the UK’s most respected private colleges in the heart of Central London offering first class university facilities for students and conference clients from all over the world.

The existing coffee bar based within a listed part of the building was dated and under-utilised. Ferro Design Ltd was set a challenge by the client to pull together a design that was contemporary yet sympathetic, with the listed surroundings as well as being operationally sound for the caterers to run a successful commercial business from. The new facility operates as a successful coffee bar/drinks bar as well as operating a call order brasserie service.

Ferro Design recommended Martek to undertake the specialist joinery elements of the project as attention to detail was key to the projects success as well as making sure that the interface between equipment, counters and services was at the forefront of the design detail.

Due to the existing ceiling height and the restrictions on fixing anything to the listed panelling, a bulkhead was cantilevered off of the counter to give a more cohesive commercial appearance. Wood grain laminates and Avonite worktops added a practical yet quality feel to the project whilst remaining in keeping with the surroundings.

The Brasserie has been hailed a great success from a popularity and commercial perspective by out performing projected business models.

The Deli
During the successful fit out of the Brasserie, we were asked to install a new deli/retail shop which was to be created from a section of the existing restaurant that housed a series of seating booths.

Again Ferro Design were asked to come up with a design solution to fit a narrow space that incorporated a deli, food preparation area, self help coffee and grab and go retail items. This created an additional food outlet that could operate all day, was convenient for the academics and increased revenue and opportunity for the college.

Martek were engaged to manufacture the specialist joinery elements of the project as well as supply the catering equipment.
