Middlesex University was formed in 1878 and is made up of three campuses in North London. Hendon is the university’s flagship campus offering students a broad range of high quality education in business, law, health and social sciences.

During 2008 students and staff relocated to the Hendon Campus following the closure of Enfield. It was this year that The Forum, an exciting new venue for students to eat, relax and socialise was created from the former 650sqm gym. The catering and interior design scheme was provided by Ferro Design Ltd and Martek were awarded the contract to completely refurbish the space.

A mezzanine was installed to utilise the existing height of the original structure and this is where we have installed a range of food outlets including a drinks bar, coffee shop and deli. A gymnasium is accommodated on the lower level.

The space was designed for multi-purpose use and includes a dance floor, stage and DJ booth. The dynamic mix of furniture and robust finishes ensures that the students can relax and enjoy the space to the full with the University satisfied in the knowledge that the facility will stand the test of time.

To minimise disruption, the work was carried out over the summer months and completed on time and on budget for the students return to campus in September.

The scope of works included provision of : bespoke joinery, sliding door system, walls, floors, ceilings, mechanical and electrical installation. Working in close liaison with Alan lamb Associates, Martek successfully delivered the complete fit-out of this £540k project.
