This project was undertaken for a leading Global Healthcare Market Intelligence company based in London NW1.
The existing catering facility was fairly traditional in food service and style. Customer numbers were reducing mainly as a result of competition from surrounding external food outlets.
The client and caterer worked very much as a team on this project; both wanting to achieve better customer retention, reduced subsidies and a healthier food offer. The budget did not allow for a completely new facility but it was important that we brought about visual change in order to improve the customer experience in terms of ambience, atmosphere, marketing and food offer.
This was a joint venture between Ferro Design and Martek. The client and caterer brief was taken in October 2008 with orders being placed in early November. Works started on site just after Christmas with completion as planned on the 9th January 2009.
Ferro Design Ltd was responsible for the catering and interior design aspects of the project. Martek was the principle contractor responsible for the entire refurbishment, including alterations to the M&E services.
Our works involved the careful strip out of the flooring and existing counters, fabrication of new bespoke joinery, which included a recycle waste station, condiment unit to include microwave housing, a new rear counter as the old one was of domestic grade and in poor condition and decorative wall boxes with LED lighting to display fair trade products. The existing front counter was in good condition however it did not meet DDA Guideline and therefore the decision was taken to fabricate a new counter at the correct heights with the introduction of a feature coffee bar section with cantilevered bulkhead (this was an atrium space). All inset equipment from the old counter was carefully removed and re-installed in to the new counter together with some new equipment to suit the new style of service.
Our work also involved painting the existing walls laying new Polyflor safety floor to the rear of the service counter, a Freudenberg Norament rubber floor to the customer side with an oval rubber feature floor to the central café area. The dining and lounge areas were carpeted using a contemporary Modulyss tile. We created a feature wall to the back of the restaurant by using Mobilia Freeform Pastel discs imported from France that we either sprayed within our workshop or applied mirror laminate to.
Some existing client chairs and tables were re-used with new café, bench and lounge furniture being supplied by Allermuir and Morris Contract furniture.
The fit-out on site was completed in 10 days at a total cost including fees, furniture and graphics of £105K.
